Reviews For Vanity Fair Magazine

Good All Around Entertainment

Vanity Fair is the best all around entertainment magazine on the market. They consistently fill a large magazine (usually around 300 pages) with a variety of articles on a wide range of topics -- one recent issue had articles about a pope that collaborated with the Nazi's and a feature on Jim Carrey.

The article on Jim Carrey was centered around his taking on the Andy Kaufman role in his new movie and tried to draw some paralells between the two comics. The article was an interersting, fresh look at Carrey giving the reader a further insight into a seemingly complex guy.

I really enjoy the historical or in depth article in the beginning of the magazine. Many times that article opens my mind to a part of history or culture that I had never explored. The article on the Pope that collaborated with the Nazi's was one such piece. I learned not only about this guy's behavior as a pope, but how he manuevered his way into being in contention to being named pope in the first place, and his connection to Germany. It was a good look into what is some really abhorent behavior by a leader.

Overall I find that Vanity Fair has an article to fit most any mood I may be in....from superficial to indepth.

More Than Fair!

Vanity Fair is a great magazine if you love long, in-depth articles on a variety of topics. I've learned much about the entertainment and art worlds through this magazine.

You'll find articles not only about current events, but historical happenings also. The magazine is great about reviewing old scandals as well as new trials. I have read articles on people in Vanity Fair who only later became more well-known. The magazine is definitely on top of things.

I love the amount of space the magazine devotes to letters, how it gives a short bio on article authors, and the length of the articles. They really go in-depth and seem to cover questions that I want answers too.

Lastly, the photos (no matter how controversial) can't be beat!

Read for a week!

I love Vanity Fair. I think that it is one of the most intelligent magazines published today, and I think that is pretty good for a glossy entertainment magazine. Vanity Fair publishes articles that I would not normally consider reading: stuff about socialites and wealthy people I did not even know existed. I love the photography in Vanity Fair--they always show one of your favorite celebrities in a different light on the front cover. I really like the fact that the articles seem longer than other magazines, such as Entertainment Weekly. I love EW too, but a lot of time, it leaves me wanting for more. Vanity Fair satisfies my craving.

IF YOU CAN ONLY READ ONE MAGAZINE

I subscribe to over 20 magazines a month and Vanity Fair is by far the best of them all. Month after month, VF delivers fascinating and well written articles about high-profile celebrities, businessman etc. In addition, the photographs are terrific. Annie Liebowitz is one of the best photogrpahers around and she always delivers top-notch photos each month. The only drawback is the size of the magazine - with all the articles, ads and photos, Vanity Fair has gained a sizable girth. However, it's a small price to pay for a top-quality publication. I think if you browse through some of the other opinions on this magazine, you'll find them to pretty much concur with my opinion.

VANITY FAIR is my favorite magazine!

I have subscribed to VANITY FAIR for the last 6 years and I have no plans of giving it up any time soon. As long as the magazine maintains the current high level of quality in it's writing and the present originality of subjects chosen each month, I will be a devoted reader!

I enjoyed VANITY FAIR during the early 1980's but then I noticed a change during the late 80's that I couldn't appreciate, so I seldom bought and read an issue. Then approximately 6 or 7 years ago, the magazine seemed to again achieve it's former greatness.

VANITY FAIR allows me to stay current on many subjects, such as 'who's who' and 'what's what' in the entertainment and art world, what the 'rich and famous' are up to, from what crimes have been committed or what divorces have been filed to which charities have been donated to and what business openings are eminent. Often an excerpt from a soon to be released book will be included.

VANITY FAIR seldom disappoints me and the day I find it in my mailbox each month, I know I will have some entertaining reading in store! I love VANITY FAIR!

Great Read

I bought my first Vanity Fair at a newstand at the airport. I figured that if I didn't like the magazine, at least I would look cool and important carrying it around. I thought people would point at me and say "Look at her, she's reading Vanity Fair, she must be someone."

However, when I opened up the magazine, I became so engrossed in the fascinating articles that I didn't think to look and see if anyone was watching me. Actually, my nose was so far into the magazine, people probably thought I was some sort of freak that had gotten her face stuck to the magazine glue.

I was amazed that this magazine was not required reading for any American over high school age. The articles are well written and thouroghly researched, covering points from fashion to politics to abortion to travel. This truly is the magazine for all those 'someones' out there. Reading that first Vanity Fair was an amazing experiance for me, it opened my mind to different thoughts and ideas. I now am a proud subscriber to this wonderful magazine.

A Trend Trancender

I began reading Vanity Fair as a teenager. I am thirty-eight now and I await each issues arrival with anticipation. There are always current news stories and stories that are always interesting. International happenings and things that are happening wherever you live.
The celebrity profiles and stories are well written and accurate. This is not a tabloid like "The Enquirer" nor is it a snobbish magazine like "Town & Country." It is to me, always captivating. I find many of the articles interesting enough to recommend to others. I save the magazine and often reread an article. There are events that are just developing and appear in the magazine. As national news organizations report on them, I can go to a back issue and read "Vanity Fair's" article on it again.
Never boring and many articles for any intelligent adult.

Great mix of gossip and hard news

"Vanity Fair" is head and shoulders above anything else on the magazine rack. On the one hand, it has loads of fun, gossipy stories on celebrities - past and present - combined with state-of-the art work from the premier photographers in the business, including Herb Ritts and Annie Leibowitz. While the articles on entertainment celebrities are usually pure PR fluff pieces, there are also more in-depth articles about the power players behind the scenes and old Hollywood legends. These voyeristic guilty pleasures sit comfortably side-by-side with some of the best serious journalism in print. Month after month, "Vanity Fair" addresses important issues that are only covered superficially in most of the media. The editors aren't afraid to allow their reporters to do long pieces on foreign affairs, politics and the economy. If it's been a major event on the world scene, "Vanity Fair" has covered it, and covered it well. I almost always read it cover to cover, and always come away feeling like it was time well spent.

Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll... with a Better Vocabulary

I've been an avid reader of Vanity Fair since first subscribing at age 16. How else would I know the goings-on of people like Jocelyn Wildenstein and Princesses Marie-Chantal, Pia, and Alexandra (aka The Miller Sisters)?

Vanity Fair consistently provides a well-balanced volume of investigative reports, society gossip, movers-and-shakers features, and luscious photography. If you care to know the who's who of everything upper-crust -- philanthropy, fine dining, theater and the arts, film, fashion -- Vanity Fair is the magazine to treasure. The photography alone is reason enough to subscribe: they are so masterfully styled and intricately decorated, images from ten years ago still are emblazoned in my (nutty-professor-forgetful) mind.

Fluff and Stuff

Where can one find Annie Leibovitz, Dominick Dunne, and Christopher Hitchins as regular fare in a magazine, under the same cover, often in the same month? Vanity Fair. The subjects of the stories can range from G.W Bush's religious experiences to the use of squalene in Anthrax vaccines to the bizzare lives of the overindulged ultra-rich. For the single diner who doesn't have a handy book, VF fills the bill with just enough articles and essays to pass an hour eating dinner.
