Reviews For Fast Company Magazine

Undoubtedly the Best

Every time I buy this magazine, I am so tempted to quit my job and created the ultimate company where people are free to express their opinions and are able to see their dreams turn into reality. Then I wake up. BUT, Fast Company really keeps you on your toes. There's one word for it: inspiring.

Human beings are the highlight of each issue. There's loads of articles and sidebars about people and their perceptions about business. There is an emphasis on people with technology-related careers, but there are also blurbs about everyone from pocketbook designers to gardeners.

Great for people who are starting a new business, managers/owners who are ready to reform an existing business, or the little people (like me) who want to be inspired to change the way they think about big business (and hopefully inspire a change in the big-wigs).

Order a copy of the September issue - there's more juicy, inspiring and thought-provoking information in that issue than you'll find in any business book or magazine.

Not just a magazine, a way of life

It took me a while to figure out why I love Fast Company so much.

I mean, it didn't take long to figure out it was very different from other publications -- the ones that focus on the personalities of business and finance or the transactions of business. I guess other business magazines had turned me off on the genre. Frankly, I don't give a rats whatever about who's merging with whom or anyone, and I mean anyone, who might be on the list of the richest people anywhere.

Then a friend suggested that I read a particular article in Fast Company...It took me about a paragraph to realize I wasn't in Kansas anymore.

This is a magazine about the culture of business...the life of business. More importantly it's about people, not personalities...and more importantly still, its about having a life. Balancing working and living is a major theme.

It's the first business magazine I've ever actually felt was written for me...not some megacorporate CEO-type.

Is it for you?

I read this magazine because I needed some inspiration for my drab worklife. I am the Manager of New Media at a respectable Advertising Agency. But, I don't get out much and this magazine keeps me involved in the latest and greatest ways of doing business.

The feature articles seem to revolve around a monthly theme. This month it is "Speed". Articles include How to avoid burnout, How to speed up your IPO. It also case studies a day in the life of some Silicon Valley families (which makes me think- thank God I don't work there). My favorite features are the tidbits on real working folks with their favorite links and creative "job titles of the future".

There are also great features on start up companies and their philosophies, etc. I like to incorporate different tactics into my workplace - such as "Black Jack Meeting" (21 minutes long- any longer and we lose!).

The graphics and writing style makes for a pleasurable read by the pool on Saturday where I dog ear the e-ads for careful internet review on Monday.

This magazine will appeal to business/communication students, entrepreneurs, self-employers, freelancers, and people like me in the advertising/marketing/communications arena.

Cutting Edge, Informative, and Easy to Read

I am a college student majoring in Computer studies and e-commerce marketing as well as working full time for Hewlett Packard. I also happen to be a 21 year old model. I used to read only Allure, Glamour, etc. and never attempted to read any of the business magazines in my office, fearing I'd be bored to tears. Besides my whole life was that stuff, I needed a break sometimes! But then one of my mentors suggested I start reading it to stay on top of all the latest trends and to get great advice on careers, networking, and applications. This magazine honestly revolutionized my life.

Every month I get this in the mail, sit down and tear out all the relevant articles and categorize them in a file folder. I've now been able to go back and reference these articles for class project ideas, interviews (informative information on companies), and networking ideas.
My poor fashion magazines sit there and collect dust while I go out into the world feeling more informed than ever and capable of taking on the challenges I've been shying away from.

I honestly thought that this magazine would be difficult to read and above my head. But the thoughts are all broken down in simple terms without it being "dumbed down".

My favorite section is the "FUTURE" section which features new gadgets and articles about possible hiring trends, to anything else business related that we might expect to happen. It's fun to think about and discuss with my co-workers.

I would recommend this magazine to anyone at any age who's interested in the New Economy and what it's about.

If you can subscribe to only one business magazine, this is it

I've been a subscriber almost since Fast Company started and I still hoard my very first issue. Actually, I have double of all issues because I'll pick it up at the news stand a few days before receiving my copy.

I find the stories to be creative, well-thought out, and very practical. The magazine addresses modern business, particularly the technological aspects, and showcases many modern best-of-breed businesses and their winning business processes. In many ways, it's almost like a Millenium business primer.

Though I don't think you can go wrong subscribing to Fast Company, I've always thought it odd that the magazine was delivered to news stands and book stores first, prior to subscribers receiving it in the mail. And lately they've started that silly simultaneous cover thing where a single issue is given two different covers and they sit side-by-side on the shelves. But other than that, it's a sure bet and I love it.

Fast Company always has useful information

Fast Company is a great leading edge business magazine. I've been a subscriber for a little over a year now and continue to be pleased with the information I gain. The magazine has gotten a lot bigger in that timeframe, likely due to more ad pages. I can overlook the ads when browsing the content though because it always has useful information. The career information is very good, and their website is even better. They always have real people with real world experiences that can really educate you about what's going on in a particular market. The letters to the editor are usually very interesting also. I think Fast Company is well written and well laid out and follows a logical flow. They also start and finish a story within contiguous pages, which is rare today. There's nothing I hate more than flipping to three different sections within a magazine to finish one story. This is one magazine that you definitely get what you pay for.

The best voice for the new look of business.

I have been a Fast Company subscriber for well over a year now and truly believe it is the best source for identifying the cutting edge of business thought. The biggest advantage to Fast Company is their unique view of blending business and social trends in a way that works for both. In most business magazines the personal nature of business is treated more as a human-interest story than an integral part of the organization. Fast Company on the other hand, addresses the issue as a larger part of the entire system, giving business a more holistic slant.

The magazine has articulate well-written articles, witty edgy ads, and offers an on-line community called the Circle of Friends (COF) dedicated to the creation of knowledge. One of the other advantages I enjoy is the length of the articles. I, like most people today, find it difficult trying to find time to read, but the articles are written short enough to read quickly but still maintaining enough content to be interesting and informative.

The Circle of Friends is also a feature that is as far as I know unmatched by any other magazine. It goes the extra mile in trying to not only inform but also in bringing the magazine to life and creating a real community. This aspect of Fast Company puts people of like interests together to discuss varying perspectives both on-line throughout the world but also has developed local chapters where groups can meet and share ideas, insights and knowledge for the betterment of its members.

I may sound like a Fast Company evangelist, but it is the first magazine in a long time that I look forward to reading cover to cover. I read quite a few business publications but none of them holds my interest month in and month out as does Fast Company.

Creative and Innovative Mag

I currently subscribe to "Fast Company" and have found it to be a revolutionary magazine for the following reasons. First, I am a Generation X'er, and I like the catchy layout and relevant stories. This magazine focuses on entrepreneurs, and current technologies, which are the future of business. It's stories are real, and you get to actually hear what the person who built a certain company has to say about leadership, and other relevant issues in today's business world. They also have a "Consultant's Debunking Unit" which pokes fun at the world of consulting and is a monthly highlight. The advertisements are even fun to read! Several I have cut out and put on my desk at work. This magazine combines creativity, fun and technology to equal a unique business magazine experience. Forget the dry and boring Harvard Business Review...this is the real thing!

Great Magazine for Thought Leaders

Fast Company is a highly interesting news magazine geared toward new cutting-edge business, but also includes articles on main stream longer standing businesses. It includes information on business reporting and entrepreneurial insights. I absolutely love the magazine and usually read it from cover to cover. I always find bits of information on new businesses or websites I had not heard of. Every month I find myself checking out something further on the web. The magazine includes great articles not only on business, but on the individuals that make the business run -who they are and what they have done. So many of the people are inspiring.

Fast Company is a thought provoking magazine with reporting on market trends, and the latest technology. This magazine is a must read for any thought leader. I look forward to each new issue.

I have found that the magazine has the right amount of ads for the number of articles. Many of the ads I find interesting as the companies are unique themselves. I have read reviews indicating there are too many ads, but I have not found that the case. I have read many more magazines with a lot more ads than Fast Company

Great journalistic effort

I found Fast Company two years ago in an airport and have read it from cover to cover, ever since. I find the journalism to be accurate and timely. One or two of their topics were a bit overdone, but for the most part , they are right on target.
They seem to have the ability to create a very readable magazine which speaks to the times. It has organizational info as well as information on companies, great sites, gadgets, interesting ads and a very hefty amount of reading for the price.
In all, this one is the one I look forward to getting each month. I wrote to them as soon as I subscribed and suggested that they go month to month, which I believe lots of other readers did, too. Soon after, they announced monthly editions. I believe that the editors listen to their readership.
I find their articles challenge the status quo. I also can count of them to inform me of new trends in the business of America. They seem to have no issue with adverse editorials and print more than most publishers do that do not agree with topics or ideas presented. Perhaps, that is why I like this magazine so much, they seem to present a very well rounded view of a topic.
Well done and good content quality. Great magazine and well worth the money for a subscription.
